It’ll be a very Frank Christmas this year, as the wintry Sinatra spirit is called from the grave by the Cult Legends label. the late 1920s jazz and swing crooner recorded many a Christmas song over his career, but perhaps the most identifiable hearth-warmer is ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’, a known-and-loved original that notably underwent lyric changes for a later 1957 recording. Famously, Sinatra asked for a more uplifting line and replaced “we’ll have to muddle through somehow” with “hang a shining star upon the highest bough”, more than proving the depth of his lyrical prowess beyond mere supper club exploitation.
