The concert was part of the In Concert Against Aids series, a groundbreaking, 18-months-in-the-making event which took place in the Bay Area over five days at the end of May 1989. Conceived and organised by Bill Graham and billed as a ā€˜total community effort’ the jewel in the crown was a star-studded concert on 27 May in Oakland.
