David Gilmour is a British composer, guitarist, vocalist, and co-lead singer of the band Pink Floyd. In addition to his work with the band, Gilmour has worked as a record producer for various artists and has had a successful solo career. Throughout his musical career, Gilmour has been actively involved with numerous charities. In 2003, he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to music and charity, and was also awarded the Outstanding Contribution Award at the 2008 Q Awards.
