Andy Capp Records is releasing a limited-edition box set (500 numbered copies) with three colored “splatter” vinyl records featuring the complete recording of the concert Pink Floyd held on April 3, 1971, at the Sportpaleis Ahoy in Rotterdam, while promoting the album “Atom Heart Mother,” which had been released the previous October. The album’s title track, performed in the final section with a brass section and choir conducted by Jeffrey Mitchell, is the highlight of a show that opened with “Astronomy Domine” (from the first album “The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn”) and closed with “Embryo,” as always very different and much more expansive than the version released that year on the Harvest compilation “Picnic – A Breath Of Fresh Air.” “Fat Old Sun” is the other track taken from the “cow” album, while the experimental and psychedelic explorations “Careful With that Axe, Eugene”, “Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun” and “A Saucerful of Secrets” and the ballad “Cymbaline” come from the quartet’s previous repertoire.
